Below are some common questions asked of Jacob, together with his answers.
Q. Why did you want to be MP for North East Somerset?
A. I have been fortunate to grow up in Somerset where I live with my wife and three young children. I have always wanted to give back to the community and have campaigned locally for many years on the key local issues.
Q. What do you think about the MPs’ expenses scandal?
A. The whole thing has been a disgrace. MPs should stay within the spirit not just the letter of the law. I have already said I won’t claim expenses running a second home.
Q. What will you do for older people?
A. Old people often have difficulties in understanding the tax and benefit systems. I am committed to ensuring that the tax and benefits system is applied fairly and that older people are not disadvantaged. In addition I am committed, like the Conservative Party as a whole, to increase pensions in line with earnings and limit Council Tax increases.
Q. What will you do to protect the Green Belt in North East Somerset?
A. I will continue to support residents in their fight to stop overdevelopment of our countryside. Local people, not government should decide whether, where and how many homes are needed.
